A Portrait Gallery for Los Angeles, 2016

This projected was done in a studio called 'The Art Space' taught by Emmanuel Christ, Christoph Gantenbein, and Victoria Easton as part of a loose collaboration with Hauser Wirth & Schimmel. The studio premise was to imagine an Art Space for the display of a particular body of work, by a single artist - a space that would in turn serve as a place for the exhibition of art work more generally.

The proposal is for a radially organized portrait gallery to house the subtly different, serial portraits by Roni Horn. Braced by external structure, and winding stairs that wrap the gallery volume, the walls of each floor get progressively taller, allowing visitors a range of encounters with spaces of subtly calibrated scale. These small changes also allow variable proximity to the portraits within.
